Waldron’s winter sports seasons are underway. The girls basketball team returns everyone from a team that finished the 5-17 a year ago. This season Waldron has a new head coach, Anthony Thomas, who has previously coached girls basketball at various levels for Waldron. Key returnees are juniors Morgan Wood (15.8 points per game), Hannah Sullivan (7.1 points per game, Abby Adams (7.4 points per game) and Victoria Shaw (11.4 points per game). The Lady Mohawks have started the season off with a 2-1 start, beating Arlington and Central Christian and losing a close game to Southwestern.

The boys basketball team graduated several of the leading scorers from last year’s team and will look to three seniors and several underclassmen to fill the scoring void. New head coach Will Staal anticipates seniors Cole Adams and Cameron Wells, along with sophomore Parker Huffman and freshman Tyler Bowlby will step up and fill key roles for the team. The Mohawks will open their season at home against Christel House Academy on Tuesday, November 21st.

The varsity gymnastics team is competing for their third consecutive year. Janice Huntsman will take over the reins for her second season as head coach. Both of last year’s gymnasts, Erika Huntsman and Taylor Fischer will represent Waldron this season. They will follow Shelbyville’s regular season schedule and compete at the Connersville Sectional at the end of the season. The girls have showed great improvement over the past two seasons and look for an opportunity to move further into the post-season tournament this year.
