This will be a BIG night at MES! Our BOGO Book Fair will be open, plus students will be showcasing some of their STEAM projects they have created with Mrs. Waltz...AND....we will have a carnival in the gym!!
We are in need of prizes/donations for the carnival. If you are able to donate any of these items, you may drop them off at the elementary office (or send to school with your child). We would like to have donations by Friday, May 10th!
Here is what we need: prepackaged/bought items including---Little Debbie snacks, brownies, cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. Again, all items must be prepackaged/bought...NO HOMEMADE ITEMS can be accepted.
We also need: individually wrapped candy (of any kind), small carnival-type prizes, and 2 liter sodas. THANK YOU!
The BOGO Book Fair will be May 13-17.

Also, this past week, we sent home invitations with the 5th graders for their graduation and breakfast on Friday, May 24th at 8:30 (in the HS cafeteria). We ask to please have RSVP's sent back by May 3rd (next Friday).
Kindergarten invitations are going home TODAY. No RSVP needed. Graduation will be held Friday, May 24th at Noon in the elementary gym.

Good Morning, Morristown Families! A few announcements on this rainy Friday:
1. Yearbooks have arrived! For those who pre-ordered, we will be sending them home with students today. We do have a few in the office that may be purchased for $17.00. If you are writing a check, please make it out to MES.
2. ILEARN testing begins for grades 3rd-5th next week. Teachers will be communicating the schedule with you on days your child's grade level is testing. Our hope is to have good attendance during testing in order to avoid make-up sessions.
3. 1st and 4th grade students will have hearing screenings on Tuesday.

Happy Friday! A few announcements as we head into the weekend:
1. IT'S FINALLY HERE....the anticipation of the Solar Eclipse! Shelby Eastern Schools will be operating under an eLearning Day this Monday, April 8th. Students will be coming home with Chromebooks today. Teachers will be posting assignments and sharing their office hours (and other information) for this day. Thank you to the PTA for putting together Solar Eclipse bags for all students!
2. Next week will be our annual SCUFFY (Shelby County United Fund for You) drive. We will be having a competition among students to see which grade level can raise the most money. The winning grade level will receive a McDonald's lunch at a later date!

1. There is NO SCHOOL tomorrow Friday, March 29th. Students will return on Monday, April 1st.
2. K-5 music program is this coming Wednesday, April 3rd at 7:00pm in the high school main gym.
3. Next Thursday, April 4th is National School Librarian Day. We want to give a shoutout to our very own, Mrs. Waltz! In honor of this day, we are encouraging students to dress as their favorite book character on Thursday.

1. Don't forget to SPRING FORWARD an hour this weekend with the time change on Sunday.
2. Letters are going to be sent home in the mail to families who have indicated an allergy and we do not have a doctor's notes on file. Per guidelines, this is something we need to have on file.

Hello!
With the spring semester going by so fast, Mr. Thrasher and I wanted to reach out with a few details explaining our elementary music program coming up. The program is centered around Drew Daywalt’s children's book, “The Day the Crayons Quit.” In the book, the main character Duncan opens his crayon box one day to find that each of his crayons has written him an individual letter airing their grievances regarding his usage of that particular crayon. At the end of the book, Duncan uses all the crayons to create a picture that highlights all of them.
We have chosen two crayon colors for each grade level, and corresponding songs to sing/perform for each one. From each grade level, we will have two student speakers who will read either of the colors before they perform their song. For kindergarten and first grade, we will have a teacher from each class read.
We would like to have students dress in a t-shirt/sweatshirt/top in a corresponding color for their grade level, one color per class. This does not have to be a specific shade of any of the colors and just needs to be the main color of the shirt.
The crayon and shirt that go with each grade level are as follows:
Kindergarten: Red (Ledford) and green (Morris)
First Grade: Orange (Metcalf) and gray (Schmidt)
Second Grade: Pink (Bland) and white (Kuhn)
Third Grade: Peach (Tush) and blue (Songer)
Fourth Grade: Beige (Godar) and purple (Reighley)

It will take place on April 3rd, at 7:00 PM in the main gym at MHS. Students should arrive at 6:30 PM.

Good Afternoon! A few reminders on this Thursday afternoon:
1. School WILL be in session this coming Monday, February 19th as a snow make-up day.
2. Yearbook orders are due next Friday, February 23rd. Please visit inter-state.com/order and enter the code 83727S. You can also return one of the forms that were sent home previously with checks made out to MES.
3. We have been seeing a lot of sickness lately. We want to remind parents to keep their child home when they are sick. Students must be fever free (less than 100 without the use of Tylenol, etc.) for 24 hours and no vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours, as well. If your child is going to be out, we ask that you please call the school. Please and thank you!

This message is to let you know that all students in grades K-5 will be coming home with their Chromebook and charger this afternoon. As you may know, there is potential for inclement weather to come in later this evening and overnight which may cause the need to delay or close school tomorrow. Should we need to close, tomorrow will be an eLearning Day. If a cancellation is made, notification will be sent out to parents along with further instructions for eLearning.

Happy Snowy Friday! A few announcements as we head into the weekend:

2. The Pacer Ticket Fundraiser ends next Thursday, January 25th. If you are submitting orders by using the form sent home with kids, please make sure orders and money are submitted by this date. Sales can also be made online.
3. A reminder that microwaves are not to be used by elementary students in the cafeteria. We have had issues with this in the past, so those are reserved for students in the junior/senior high. Please do not send items to school that need to be heated during lunch.
