Strategic Plan 2007-2009

Vision Statement
Shelby Eastern Schools will provide the opportunity for a quality educational experience for students that will prepare them to be productive members of an ever-changing society.

Mission Statement

Shelby Eastern Schools provides an academic environment which values excellence and diversity, encourages students to strive for personal excellence, and assists them in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to contribute positively to a rapidly changing world.
 
Goals and Objectives
We value improved student achievement.  Shelby Eastern Schools will:


• Expect teachers to teach the Indiana Academic Standards and use multiple assessment tools to develop, individualize, and adjust instruction.

• Expect students to read and write at grade level efficiency by the end of Grade 3.

• Increase the number of students mastering the Indiana Academic Standards.

• Maintain student attendance rates greater than 96%.

• Improve graduation rates.

• Increase the number of students graduating with a Core 40 diploma.


We value the effective use of technology.  Shelby Eastern Schools will:

• Increase the use of Moodle and distance education as teaching and learning tools.

• Use the findings of the Technology Report in scheduling the purchase of necessary
computer hardware and software programs.

• Develop and implement a K-12 electronic report card.


We value continuous staff development.  Shelby Eastern Schools will:

• Expect principals and teachers to participate annually in professional development opportunities.

• Increase staff development training by corporation teachers.

• Increase the number of teachers trained to be Mentor teachers.

• Provide additional school calendar release days for staff development activities.


We value effective internal and external communications.  Shelby Eastern Schools will:

• Expect Principals to report the progress made toward school improvement plans each year.

• Increase the use of our Homework Hotline program by teachers, students, and parents.

• Market the school corporation by developing web pages and corporation brochures as resource and information tools.

• Distribute newsletters on a regular basis to parents.

• Increase the use of list serves to communicate with parents.


We value an environment conducive to learning.  Shelby Eastern Schools will:

• Employ a Curriculum Coordinator (funded through a grant) to facilitate curriculum work, write and implement grants, and facilitate teacher staff development activities and training.

• Staff each school in a manner that maximizes instruction and reduces school corporation debt.

• Develop an alternative school (BRCP).

• Develop school learning communities that focus on school improvement.
