The deadline for signing up for the senior class trip to Chicago has been extended until Friday, March 28. The trip is now open to parents who wish to come. All you need is a $100 (nonrefundable) deposit to reserve your spot. Click here for the full details of the trip.
Don't forget to bring in your pictures for the 2008 commencement video.
The deadline is Friday, March 28. You need to bring in 1 picture from
your infant/toddler years, 1 picture from your senior year, and 1 picture
from any year inbetween. If you do not bring in a picture, you will
not be featured in the video on graduation day!

Shelby County Lilly Scholarship - The BIG one - Applications are supposed
to be out very soon. You will have two weeks to submit. Make sure you have
asked for letters of recommendation (3-4). Watch for announcement.
American Legion State and National Scholarships: If a parent or grandparent
is/was a member, stop by the office and borrow Mrs. Mitchum's "NEED A
LIFT" sourcebook. Several local American Legion scholarships become
available in the spring. These are not posted in this book. Also, look for
information for the Oratorical Contest by email to acy@legion.org.
IUPUI Poetry Contest - Go to http://www.opd.iupui.edu/poetry
before February 4. Cash prizes are available.
Young Authors Contest - Go to http://www.colum.edu/Academics/Fiction
before January 11.
USA Funds: Go to www.usafunds.org/scholarship
between December 15 and February 15. Lottery awards of $1500, multiple
awards available.
US Bank: Apply online at usbank.com/studentbanking. Lottery awards of $1000, 30 available. October through February.
Entrepreneur Scholarship: Go to info@mckelveyfoundation.org if you have started
your own business. Multiple $10,000 awards available. Due January 18.
Masonic scholarships: if you are a son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter,
check at the lodge for scholarships.
IUPUI Scholarships: There is a blanket form available. Forms are available
in the office or online at
www.iupui.edu/~scentral.

due December 31.
College bound Seniors are reminded that this is the month to get applications in to perspective colleges (in order to be considered for scholarships.) You have to be admitted in order to be considered! IU, U of I , and ISU among others have Presidential Scholarships to award.
Reminder: There will be a College Fair at Shelbyville High School on Thursday, October 4 at 6:30 p.m. All high school studentsare welcome to attend.
If you are considering an art/photography/graphic design major, you need to meet deadlines to submit your portfolio. Check with the admission department of your chosen school(s) to verify the date.
Resume - Make sure that your resume is updated as we head into scholarship season.
Proof pages - Assemble and copy patchwork pages of items/pictures/clippings that will verify some of your activities. For example, copy two of your track ribbons, a snapshot of you working on the school robot, and a newspaper column that lists your honor roll. These carry a lot of weight in the big scholarships, Elks, Lilly, etc.
Juniors will be taking the PSAT on Oct. 17, the state picks up the fee. Sophomores and others can take the test for $14 each.
Future business majors interested in attending IU should try to attend Kelley Day at IU Bloomington on October 13 from 1-4 p.m. You should also see Mrs. Mitchum about being named a Wells Scholar candidate.

Coca Cola Scholarship:
Must apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org
(our ceeb code is 152440). 250 scholarships up to $20, 000 will be awarded.
You should be able to demonstrated leadership, community commitment, academic
achievement and part time employment. Due October 31.
AXA Scholarship:
52 winners up to $25, 0000. They are looking for ambition and a demonstrated
ability to overcome a life challenge. Go
to www.axa-achievement.com.
Due by December 15.
SAT/ACT: It is recommended that you take the SAT/ACT again in Nov. or Dec. for maximum score.
Mrs. Mitchum will meet with all seniors individually about future plans. Contact her now if you are not passing a class that you need to graduate.
Read NEXT magazine. It has Indiana's 50 hot jobs and other good information.

First Freedom Essay Competition for grades 9-12 - Write
