Morristown Elementary School
An "Exemplary School"
as recognized by the Indiana DOE

Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Morristown Elementary School!

I am honored to welcome you to Morristown and a brand new school year! Our staff has done an outstanding job getting ready for a new year and new group of students. We value each and every MES student and want them to do their very best in all that they do.
Morristown Elementary is in the heart of Morristown, in the northeast corner of Shelby County. Morristown Elementary serves over 360 students ages 3- 5th grade. Our veteran teaching staff provides appropriate instruction to all of our students in a safe and secure learning environment. Our student to teacher ratio remains under 20:1 and we work hard to get students as much individual attention as possible. Our teachers use a curriculum aligned to the Indiana State Standards and in addition to those standards work to teach their students to be better citizens and community members.
Morristown has several programs for students of all abilities and ages. We have a developmental preschool for three and four year olds through Blue River Special Education Co-op. New this year is our All-day Kindergarten program in addition to our already successful K-Club program that also provides an all-day setting for our kindergarten students. Our Title I and ACE (gifted and talented) programs provide attention to enrichment and remediation for those qualifying students. We also have special area teachers, including physical education, music, art, a school counselor, a media specialist, and a nurse.
The school and community work closely together with local businesses sponsoring school activities like the “Student of the Month” program. The strong Chamber of Commerce in Morristown also involves the school by inviting staff to chamber meetings as well as opening their doors to our students to visit on study trips.
Our PTO works hard to help students and support the school. Whether they are volunteering in a classroom with ‘Helping Hands’ or providing us with funds for field trips, the PTO is an important part of Morristown Elementary. They are always open to new members and ideas and want to do everything they can to make us the best school possible.
Morristown is a wonderful school in the middle of a wonderful small town. In 2007, the Indiana Department of Education recognized Morristown Elementary as an “Exemplary” school, the highest rating a school can achieve for a second straight year. It is the combination of opportunity, community, hard work, and people that make Morristown Elementary a great place to learn.
